There is much to do in South Australia
to overcome the high rates of trauma on our roads and the
AMA(SA) considers road safety an important public health
issue. The costs of road safety pale compared to the costs
of trauma our members witness in hospitals on a daily basis
and on the sometimes long and painful roads to recovery.
The AMA(SA) Road Safety Committee lobbies for measures that
make people on the roads safer.
Fitness to drive is one of the issues the AMA(SA) is currently
involved in. The committee is seeking reform of the Motor
Vehicles Act to ensure patient confidentiality is maintained
- except where the doctor believes the patient's health
poses a serious risk to their or others' safety on the roads.
