AMA(SA) PRIVACY POLICY
The AMA(SA) respects and upholds members rights to
privacy protection under the National Privacy Principles contained in the
Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000. This policy describes how the
AMA(SA) manages personal information held about members. Personal information
means any information that may be used to identify an individual.
The AMA(SA) collects and uses information about members
to perform our duties as a membership organisation.
The uses include: -
•To represent members interests with government
and municipal authorities dealing with medical or health matters and services;
•To provide newsletters and relevant information to members concerning
the medical profession, clinical and political issues, and services to members;
•To run the affairs of the association on behalf of members which includes
provision of annual reports and the opportunity to vote in elections for office
bearers;
• To assist in providing services to members for personal benefit or
for the benefit of their medical practice.
• Information about members which is not in the public domain will not
be forwarded to third parties without members’ approval
• Membership of the AMA(SA) includes membership of AMA Ltd and as such
member details will be provided to AMA Ltd and be subject to AMA
Ltd's Privacy Policy.
• Members can have access to their information held by AMA(SA) by making
a request to the Membership Officer. A suitable time to view their information
will then be made.
• When undertaking mail-outs to members, the AMA(SA) frequently uses
a mailing house which is required to keep all information confidential and
not retain it.
• When undertaking mail-outs on behalf of Preferred Suppliers, labelling
is completed internally at the AMA(SA) or a mailing house is used.
• The AMA(SA) does not sell personal information to mailing houses or
other organisations.
If members have concerns about the manner in which
the AMA(SA) has handled personal information it can be discussed with the
Chief Executive Officer or President. Alternatively, a formal complaint can
be lodged (in writing) which will be considered by the AMA(SA) Ethics Committee.
If members are still dissatisfied with the manner in which personal information
is handled by the AMA(SA) they can lodge a complaint with the Federal Privacy
Commissioner:
