The AMA(SA) has a dedicated Council of General Practice (CGP) which works to ensure effective communication between general practitioner members and the AMA(SA) Council. It examines issues of particular relevance and concern in general practice, covering a diverse range of topics including public health, workforce planning issues, and responses to medico-legal issues that affect GPs.

The federal AMA also has a national Council of General Practice, which works in conjunction with the federal AMA Council and state branch general practitioner groups. The AMA also offers a range of state and federal resources and supports for general practitioner members.
