for medical practitioners. It is the South Australian state
branch of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), which
represents over 27,000 doctors Australia-wide. Our members
are registered South Australian medical practitioners and
medical students.
The AMA(SA) formally exists to:
- Promote and advance
ethical behaviour by the medical profession and protect
the integrity and independence of the doctor/patient relationship
- Promote and advance
public health and the welfare of patients
- Protect the academic,
professional and economic independence and the health
and wellbeing of medical practitioners
- Preserve and protect
the political, legal and industrial interests of medical
practitioners.
The AMA(SA) will achieve
these aims by:
- Fostering and sustaining
consultation, cooperation and communication within the
medical profession
- Acting as the principal
coordinating and lobbying body for the medical profession
- Fostering unity amongst
medical practitioners by providing a forum for their opinions
- Promoting the achievement
and maintenance of high clinical and ethical standards
in medical practice
- Fostering communication
between the medical profession and the community.
The AMA(SA) is a member-focused organisation. With a range
of committees providing policy input to the activities and
direction of the AMA(SA) we are a responsive, proactive
organisation representing members' needs.
