Dr Andrew Lavender

Dr Andrew Lavender is the president of the AMA(SA) and is
also the regional representative for SA/NT on the federal
AMA council. He has worked as a staff anaesthetist at the
Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) since 1995, when he returned
to Adelaide after nine years living and working in the UK
and Ireland, and has a special interest in cardiac and neurosurgical
anaesthesia. He is currently deputy director of anaesthesia
at the RAH.
Dr Lavender has been involved
actively in the affairs of the AMA(SA) over an extended
period, having served on the AMA(SA) Council over a number
of years. He joined the AMA(SA) Council as the representative
for salaried medical officers in 2000, a role he held until
assuming the role of treasurer in 2005. He then went on
to become the AMA(SA) vice-president for two years, before
being elected president in May 2009 for a two year term.
With a particular interest in the role of public hospitals
and primary care, he is a strong advocate for public sector
doctors and the patients they care for.
