Dr Paul Dignam
MB BS, FRANZCP
Craft Group Representative
for Psychiatrists
Dr Paul Dignam did Medicine
in Sydney before moving to Adelaide in 1986 to finish his
Psychiatry training at Hillcrest Hospital. He was Director
of Psychiatry at Modbury Hospital for fourteen years before
“seeing the light” and switching to Child and
Adolescent psychiatry in 2003. He is now based at Elizabeth
CAMHS but also does mother-infant work at WCH, provides
telehealth services to rural CAMHS, and visits Whyalla and
Pt Augusta. He has a particular interest in Attachment theory
and Personality Disorder.
Outside of his clinical role Paul is very
interested in teaching across disciplines and in the development
of preventive, early intervention programmes for young parents
and families. He abhors policies and committees, but to
the extent that they must exist is interested in making
them focussed and realistic!
Home life with Ruth and
eight children, some now “graduated”, provides
a solid foundation for the emotional demands of his professional
work, and a place to sing, garden, write poetry and watch
the grass grow.
