AMA(SA) working
for you.
The AMA(SA) has established many
dedicated committees and craft groups to represent its members'
interests, with focal views on issues for advocacy at both
the local, state and federal levels of Government.
Here is a snapshot of how AMA members
make a real difference to the health profession.
Can you see yourself in the picture? Email AMA(SA)
to learn more about getting involved
in one of the following craft groups. You will enjoy the
support of a committed team and secretariat.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee meets regularly
to oversee and manage the business of the AMA(SA) Council
with a focus on maintaining and improving efficient business
standards, matching the dynamism of the profession the committee
serves. Membership of the Executive
includes the following office bearers:
- President
- Vice President
- Honorary Medical Secretary
- Honorary Treasurer
- Federal Councillors
- A representative of the AMA(SA)
Council of General Practice (AMA(SA)CGP)
Council of General Practice
The AMA(SA) Council of General Practice
meets regularly to discuss the gamut of issues affecting
GPs at the state and federal levels. It profits from strong
links to Federal AMA, which actively lobbies for equitable
policies. Council provides participants with a platform
to discuss issues of importance. The AMA(SA) encourages
members to make full use of their membership by joining
Council.

Doctors in Training Committee
The Doctors-in-Training (DiT) Committee
focuses on highlighting and investigating the interests
of emerging medical professionals. Comprised of documents
in training, medical students and senior doctors, the Committee
understands and identifies the key issues relevant to this
particular segment and works hard to protect their interests.
“I joined the AMA because
as I moved through medical school it became increasingly
apparent that many decisions that should be made by doctors
are instead made by bureaucrats. The AMA(SA) is the only
organisation that represents all doctors, and as such, is
the one with the most influential voice.” Andrew
Perry, DiT Committee Chairperson
Road Safety Committee
Caring about the public’s
health and safety on the roads
The Road Safety Committee is a public
health initiative of the AMA(SA) which works for a reduction
in road trauma. The committee investigates and encourages
initiatives that can reduce injuries and fatalities due
to road crashes, liaises with other key organisations to
develop strategies to improve road safety and lobbies for
a legislative framework which supports good medical care
of patients who drive. Fitness to drive assessment, licensing
requirements and rehabilitation are aspects of road safety
the AMA(SA) is well-positioned to influence and this committee
does so!
